A Brief Look at the Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class
The Beginnings of the Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class Vehicle
The Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class is a relatively new addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup, having been introduced in 2019 as a compact luxury SUV. The GLB-Class was designed to fill a gap in Mercedes-Benz’s SUV lineup between the smaller GLA-Class and the larger GLC-Class. It was also intended to appeal to buyers who wanted a versatile SUV but didn’t want to sacrifice luxury or performance.
The First Generation: 2019-Present
The first generation of the Mercedes-Benz GLB-Class is the current model, which has been in production since 2019. The GLB-Class is built on Mercedes-Benz’s MFA2 platform, which is also used for the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and B-Class vehicles.
The GLB-Class is available in several different trim levels, including the GLB 250, GLB 250 4MATIC, and the high-performance AMG GLB 35. The standard GLB 250 is powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 221 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The GLB 250 4MATIC adds all-wheel drive to the mix, while the AMG GLB 35 gets a more powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged engine that produces 302 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque.
Inside, the GLB-Class offers plenty of luxury features, including a digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system, and high-quality materials throughout. Optional features include a panoramic sunroof, heated and ventilated seats, and a premium Burmester surround sound system.
For 2021, Mercedes-Benz added a new range-topping trim level to the GLB-Class lineup: the AMG GLB 45. The GLB 45 gets a powerful 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 382 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, along with a host of other performance upgrades like a sport-tuned suspension and upgraded brakes.
The Future of the GLB-Class
As of this writing, Mercedes-Benz has not announced any plans for a second generation of the GLB-Class. However, it’s likely that the GLB-Class will continue to be an important model in Mercedes-Benz’s lineup for years to come.
Overall, the GLB-Class is a versatile and luxurious compact SUV that offers plenty of performance and features. Whether you’re hauling passengers or cargo, cruising down the highway, or taking on some off-road adventures, the GLB-Class is a capable and stylish option.
